Office ergonomics is the specific study of science in the work environment. It will pertain to the work that is performed, the environment of the work being performed, and the tools that are used. The goal of office ergonomics is to set up the work environment as best as possible to support the worker.
When workstations are set up ergonomically, workers may:
a) be less prone to headaches and eyestrain.
b) experience a reduction in neck and back pain.
c) prevent repetitive task injuries such as bursitis and tendonitis.
When office ergonomics is done correctly, it can drastically improve the comfort of workers. Workers may experience less stress and are less likely to become injured from repetitive tasks and awkward work positions. The focus is placed on how things are set up in the office work space, such as:
a) the setup of your workstation, how you sit, and how long you will stay in certain positions.
b) how tasks are performed, the movements that workers make, and whether these movements are repetitive.
c) the specific work area, including the lights, temperature, and noise levels.
d) the tools used to perform tasks are set up to fit the needs of the worker.
